Homebound (2021)

Atmosphere laden nightmare fuel for the discerning viewer.

Holly has met and married a really hot guy, Richard, who's divorced with 3 kids. Early teens, Lucia and Ralph as well as youngest, Anna.

Holly's agreed to go to his ex-wifes house and meet his kids and break the news of their wedding although Holly is reluctant as it's his youngest daughter's birthday.

When they arrive they find only Anna, later on Lucia and Ralph come in but their mother, Nina, texts Richard to tell him that she's left already.

There's an eerie sense of something being off from the beginning and it only gets weirder, first of all when Richard has his kids help him corner one of the geese for lunch, Holly finds herself nauseated and Richard sends Anna with her, making Anna cranky, however we see Lucia is delighted to slit the gooses throat.

Odd, perhaps but not unheard of, especially in the country where you find all manner of upper class inbred loonies who really are a breed unto themselves but while serving birthday cake he pours vodka for himself, Holly and all three of the kids despite Anna being about 7.

Holly begins to feel more unsettled as the oldest children become more aggressive, Richard is perma-half cut and perma-horny, even in front of his kids, it then becomes increasingly clear he's lying about hearing from his Nina, especially when Holly finds Nina's phone in a drawer.

The location, the score, the cinemaphotography is all beautiful and adds to the sense of vertigo and unease as you try to figure out what's going on here and just how much has already gone on to cause what occurs at the climax of the movie.

IMDb is full of braindead people who wanted to see gore, very standard for American people, but they quite frankly don't deserve this sort of movie.

I was properly gripped by the tension of this movie, entranced at points and was disappointed to see it end.
